Ten Ways to Use Mindset to Advance Your Business – Part #4

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Eight. Be knowledgeable. You need to be knowledgeable about how and why money moves in our economy. Money moves for value. If you have followed me for any period of time, even just the Success Advantage program, you know that since it started, I have consistently found ways to add more and more value to the program.

Money moves for value. Have your conscious mind ask your subconscious the question, “How can I provide more value to my customers?” Then go on with your day. What you’ll find is that your subconscious mind starts dripping ideas into your head. You’ll start thinking up possibilities. (Whenever you can, ask yourself mindset questions out loud.) Be knowledgeable. Find a mentor. Read. Overcome challenges, find solutions, and gain a winning mindset.

Nine. Deal with discomfort. Sometimes we have discomfort. We have frustration. We deal with fears—the fear of failure, fear of success. You need to be able to deal with those discomforts.

Fear holds many people back from achieving. You’ve got to tackle it. Nothing is better for conquering fear than taking action. Just keep taking the little steps, one at a time. Eventually you will get to where you want to be.

Surviving a Run In with “The Shiny Object Syndrome!”

Monday, February 7th, 2011

I was very fortunate to have a recent meeting with a very smart entrepreneur and as I shared what my three goals were for launching products in 2011, she very smartly pointed out how one of my goals might actually be a distraction from my overall mission. As excited as I was about this plan, it was rightly pointed out to me that this was in fact a dreaded shiny object!

Have you ever been distracted by something bright and shiny, new and cool, and it seemed to be just pulling towards it while your focus should have stayed on what you already had on your plate? Come on, you be honest, we all have!

Check out this fun video (complete with a blooper reel!) where I share both my story and the big lesson learned! Go immediately to www.NewsletterGuru.Tv and click on the episode, “Surviving The Shiny Object Syndrome.” Be sure to post a comment and let me know what you think!

The Power of Compliment

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Last week Stephanie and I were in Florida for some winter R&R after I attended a marketing conference. Whenever we travel we try to avoid large restaurants, especially national chains. Instead we like to find small local eateries. We found just a restaurant in Lake Worth called The Pelican. The waitress told us about their special homemade (from scratch) carrot cake pancakes and they we literally unbelievable!!

From my seat in the tiny restaurant I could see the cook in the back busily preparing the meals and when we were done I poked my head in to the kitchen to tell him how much we enjoyed his cooking. I’m a big fan of random acts of kindness and I’ll often do this when I get the chance. Obviously most people appreciate the compliment.

However, I was unprepared for what happened that morning. When I complimented our breakfast the cook turned to me rather quickly, dropped his utensils and came over to me flashing the biggest smile I had ever seen! He reached out his hand to shake mine and told me his name was Julian. Julian then told me that I had just made his whole day! Wow!

While the eggs were cooking Julian then went on to tell me that he’d been studying cooking for three years in St Lucia and he lives to cook good food for nice people like me!! By this time Stephanie came over to see what was keeping me and she snapped a picture of me with my new favorite breakfast cook, Julian. If you’re ever in Lake Worth, Florida, do yourself a favor and visit The Pelican Restaurant and have a great meal prepared by Julian.

And no matter where you eat today, be sure to let the cook know that you appreciate them. Both they and you will feel great for spreading a little sunshine!
